Star Trek Theories

I write a lot about the Star Trek franchise here on the website! On this page you’ll find all of my standalone Star Trek theory articles. Mostly these are about ongoing or upcoming productions, but from time to time I may speculate and theorise about older shows as well.

The most important thing to remember about my theories is this: I do not have any “insider information,” nor do I have “sources” close to the production of Star Trek. I’m guessing, speculating, theorising, or whatever you want to call it, from a fan’s perspective. That’s all. I’m not asking for a particular theory to be included, and I’m certainly not saying any of these theories are 100% provable and are definitely going to come true. All of this is just for fun. I like Star Trek, and theory-crafting is a fun way to spend a little more time in the Star Trek galaxy.

As a general point, some people take fan theories too far or to inappropriate extremes. I don’t want to encourage that! If I found that theory-crafting was harming my enjoyment of Star Trek – or of any other franchise, come to that – I would stop. While I hope none of my theories cause anyone any disappointment or harm, if you find yourself in that position, it can be helpful to take time away from online fan communities where these kinds of theories circulate.

Finally, when a new season of Star Trek is ongoing, I tend to write weekly theory posts. If you want to check out those you can find them on the respective show’s page via the drop-down menu above. To keep this page as concise as possible, I’m only including my standalone theories!

What If…? Star Trek edition!

“There are more than 800 Star Trek stories at time of writing, meaning that there are literally hundreds of potential scenarios where a different decision or different outcome could have radically changed the Star Trek galaxy…”

Star Trek 2023: what could it be?

“No information was provided by Paramount Pictures or ViacomCBS about the film other than its June 2023 release date. So it would be foolish to speculate, wouldn’t it?”

Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 – what is the Burn?

“Perhaps most importantly, we don’t know what the Burn is or what caused it. Fixing a problem requires understanding what the problem is and why it happened, so it will be absolutely essential for Burnham and the crew to figure this out…”

Star Trek: Picard Season 1 theory roundup!

“In a way, part of the fun of theory-crafting and speculating is knowing that you won’t always get it right… and boy oh boy did I have some seriously wrong theories!”
