Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

In 2022, a fan campaign to bring back Anson Mount as Captain Pike finally paid off – and it did so in style! Strange New Worlds is the series that I consider to be the high-water mark of modern Star Trek. It has an episodic style and a focus on exploration that takes the franchise back to its roots, all the while retaining the production values of Discovery and Picard.

Sadly, Strange New Worlds has been cancelled – but there are still six new episodes to come. On this page, you can find all of my episode reviews (for episodes from Season 2 onwards), as well as commentary, discussion pieces, theories, and more. I plan to review Season 5 when it premieres in 2027, so be sure to check back for that. Re-watches of episodes from Season 1 are also on the agenda!

Season 4 Episode Reviews:

Season 4 is the show’s weakest, despite a handful of solid individual episodes and storylines. It also contains by far two of the worst episodes in the entire series – if not all of modern Star Trek.

Season 3 Episode Reviews:

Season 3 was solid. It’s a bit more serialised than Seasons 1 and 2, and it also brought more TOS characters to the fore.

Season 2 Episode Reviews:

I took a break from writing reviews partway through Season 2, but I managed to get back to it ahead of Season 3! With a couple of exceptions, I enjoyed what the season brought to the table – and it ended in spectacular fashion.

In 2022, Paramount made the catastrophic, idiotic decision not to broadcast Strange New Worlds here in the UK – and in many other countries and territories around the world. As a result, I chose not to write individual episode reviews during Season 1. However, I’d love to get around to writing up re-watches of all ten episodes over the next few months. Be sure to check back for those.
